Itineraries
Guide updated · verify NT Parks & BOM Watarrka the morning you go
Built for real Red Centre logistics — NT Parks Pass, heat cut-offs, early starts and recovery — not fantasy “Rim Walk at noon” checklists. Pick the plan that matches your group, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes, parking tips and what to skip. Print from any plan page, or grab the free Rim Walk planner anytime.
Every itinerary defers to NT Parks for track status and heat management, and to the BOM Watarrka forecast (not the generic BOM homepage). Sleep outside the park.

Classic first visit: Rim Walk early
Best for: Fit first-timers who want the icon canyon loop
Sleep near Kings Canyon, start before heat builds, complete the clockwise Rim Walk, then recover. South Wall or Creek is the honest Plan B if fitness or forecast fails.

Easier / family / lower-mobility day
Best for: Families, mixed fitness, prams/wheelchairs (Kathleen Springs)
Creek-level canyon drama plus Kathleen Springs accessible path. No Grade 4 ego. Still desert heat — water and sun discipline remain mandatory.

Uluru + Kings Canyon multi-day
Best for: Red Centre first-timers with hire car or tour logistics
Pair Uluru–Kata Tjuta culture and base walks with a dedicated Kings Canyon morning. Protect cool windows; do not stack full Base Walk + Rim on the same heat day.

1 morning (+ optional easy afternoon) · active
Photography / light-optimised rim morning
Best for: Photographers chasing wall colour and rim light
True early start for colour on sheer walls and rim texture. Stay on track; ≥2 m from edges; no swimming shots in waterholes. Heat still rules the clock.

Heat-aware hot-day plan
Best for: Shoulder/hot season visits when rim timing is marginal
Assume heat is in charge. Either hit an official early cut-off for elevated walks or default to Creek + Kathleen Springs + deep recovery. Ego is optional; evacuation is not.
